Finally, after much delay, the y00ts NFT artwork reveal has come, shaking NFT Twitter to its core, and judging from people’s reactions, it has been worth the wait.
When it launched in September, the y00ts NFT collection easily spread a “fear of missing out” (FOMO) vibe amongst NFT enthusiasts. Thanks to the y00ts NFT artwork reveal, the project is again shaking NFT Twitter to its core, and people are short of saying, “It was well worth the wait!”
The NFT community positively received the September launch of the y00ts NFT project, mostly due to the team behind it. After all, it was from the same team who brought the notoriously famous, Solana-based NFT project DeGods, which was thrashing boundaries in the NFT space as a Solana project at the time of y00ts’ launch.
Why y00ts NFT Rocked the NFT World
What’s so special about y00ts? Let’s backtrack. There are 15,000 y00ts NFT in all, colorful profile pictures (PFPs) of Yetis touted to have various traits. What’s unique about the project is that its team didn’t reveal the y00ts NFT artwork during the mint. And in the days that followed, not a single y00ts NFT artwork was revealed.
The days turned into weeks, and still, no artwork came out, leading people to question whether the project was legitimate, if it was a rug pull, or if the artwork would ever be revealed. Adding fuel to the fire was the “brief” time off that Frank DeGods, one of the project’s co-founders, and the y00ts team took after the mint, raising concerns for many in the NFT space.
However, nearly two months from the original mint date, the y00ts NFT artwork reveal is finally here, and judging from people’s reactions, the art is pretty good.
The y00ts NFT Artwork Reveal
The NFT Twitter community is abuzz with the y00ts NFT artwork reveal after months of delays. What’s exceptional about the reveal is that the team reveals a new image from the 15,000 PFP images every three minutes. Each unveiled y00ts NFT is unique, from the color of the fur to the traits that lend individualism to the characters.
For instance, the fur color runs from dark chestnut to lavender/gray to pink to bright green. Then, there are the different facial features. Here are some of the other notable traits:
- Clothing—Classic suit, HazMat suit, Hoodie, Cashmere Turtleneck, Bear Coat
- Hair/Hats—Pyrite Crown, Camo Cap, Beanie, Windswept Hair, Bandana, Trucker Hat
- Color Block Glasses—Pollocks, Matisse, Da Vinci, Matisse Frames
From day one of the reveal last November 4 to this time of writing, a total of 140 y00ts NFT artwork are available for viewing on the website, some of which are incredible one-of-ones (1/1), such as a female “Queen y00t,” a “Renaissance y00t,” and an “Ice Cream King y00t.”
The lowest floor price is 52.4 SOL (about $868), while the highest is 150 SOL (about $2,487). One of the 1/1 y00ts, y00t #13175 or Mt. y00topia, sold for 500 SOL, or about $16,520 (at the time of sale), mere hours after it was revealed.
With the price each y00ts NFT artwork is fetching, there is no question that it is one of the most highly-anticipated NFT reveals of 2022. Moreover, y00ts NFT holders can now use their t00bs to mint special NFTs and become part of the wider DeGods community.
Y00ts NFT Artwork Inspiration
Looking at the y00ts NFT artwork, it’s easy to see the understated appeal of each one. You will notice that each Yeti features primary colors and a neutral palette that lend a distinctive look to the y00ts NFTs. The result is a unique blend of rich, vibrant colors and cool neutral tones that make each character special.
What’s ironic is that for all its unique simplicity, color and character were the toughest challenges the creators of the y00ts NFT project faced. In fact, one of its artists, @delilahdegods, had to write an article explaining the choices behind the design decisions.
In a tweet, @frankdegods said, “@y00tsNFT has been the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on in my entire life. But nothing great is supposed to be easy anyway. y00ts is our love letter to the web3 community.”
What was initially a younger DeGods character became a small furry bear, “Duppy,” which eventually became the Yeti character it is now. It took time to finally decide on the Yeti, as the creators wanted something to justify the “aspirational” character they had in mind for the project.
The team behind the y00ts NFTs insists that the project is where Web2 meets Web3. In what way? If you look at some of the y00ts closely, you will notice that some of the color block glasses some characters wear are reminiscent of famous artworks and logos.
According to the team, such is their way of paying tribute to the real-world art that inspired them as they worked on developing the y00ts characters. Hence, you’ll notice eyeglasses featuring the colors of the vintage Apple logo, Abbey Road of the Beatles fame, and even Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”
The initial rollout of the y00ts characters already caused a 170% upsurge in Solana NFT sales. The entire artwork reveal is yet to be completed, but it’s safe to assume plenty is in store for the y00ts community. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the y00ts.
