Popular animation and film studio DreamWorks is officially entering the Web3 space by releasing a Trolls NFT collection in partnership with Gala’s (formerly Gala Games) VOX.
DreamWorks, the animation and film studio behind well-loved animated movies like “Trolls,” “The Boss Baby,” “Shrek,” and so many more, has officially ventured into the Web3 space via the Trolls NFT collection. The studio collaborated with Gala’s, formerly Gala Games, VOX, to create the collection.
On October 14, the Trolls NFT collection formally launched on the Coinbase NFT marketplace. There are 8,888 NFTs in the collection, with each one going for 0.888 ETH.
A Closer Look at the Trolls NFT Collection
DreamWorks and VOX based the Trolls NFTs on famous characters of the animated film, including Poppy and Branch. The NFTs are in the form of 3D avatars that come with various utilities.
Each person who purchases a Troll NFT will receive the Trolls VOX Box, a mystery box. The holder’s specific Troll will be revealed at a later time. Holders of the Trolls NFTs will have the chance to win land parcels in the VOXverse, Gala Film NFTs featuring the trailer for DreamWorks’ Trolls, and Gala Music allowlist tokens. They can also use their Trolls in a text-based adventure game on the NFT collection’s Discord server.
Much of the utility for Trolls NFT holders is VOXverse-based. VOXverse is Gala’s take on the Metaverse, which it is designing with SIMS creator Will Wright.
In the VOXverse, NFT holders can explore, build memories, play, and earn rewards. With that premise, early purchasers of the NFT collection expect that DreamWorks and Gala will further collaborate to expand on the Trolls NFTs to offer more utility to holders in the future.
“We’re building a very large and elaborate world with different environments within that world,” said Wright Wright said in an “ask me anything” video. “We’re going to have different themes which will be connected to different games. Within that, we’ll have a very elaborate MMO where these characters come in and have [a] social reputation. [The Trolls] are going to be like the ‘party animals’ of the world.”
The Trolls will have unique utility within the VOXverse. The NFTs can boost fun for everybody around them. They may likely consume lots of energy for being VOXverse’s “party animals,” so they would need to eat a lot to replenish lost energy.
Roughly 3,000 Trolls NFTs have been minted from the 8,888-piece collection. However, there are only 556 owners, which means each owner is averaging about six Trolls per mint. With each Troll costing 0.888 ETH per mint, each minter spends over $6,000 on average when purchasing their Trolls.
It remains to be seen whether the rarest Troll NFTs in the collection have already been minted. The NFT drop is minting exclusively on Coinbase.
Big Names Braving the Bear Market
Despite the overall bear market that sees NFT sales in a continuous slump, some big names are undeterred from launching their own NFT collections. For instance, HUGO, the youth arm of German fashion giant HUGO BOSS announced its collaboration with Imaginary Ones last month. The two entities’ partnership saw the launch of an NFT collection, “Embrace Your Emotions,” and upcoming Metaverse experiences.
Well-known manga artist Junji Ito also announced last month that he would create an NFT collection based on his horror “Tomie” character. Details about the NFT collection are scant, but what is certain is that the collection will feature Tomie with randomly-generated traits.
Finally, Build-a-Bear, a retail company known for DIY and custom teddy bears, announced three weeks ago that it would launch an NFT collection in commemoration of its 25th anniversary. The retailer will collaborate with Sweet, an NFT platform, for the drop.
