Kevin Rose’s Web3 startup PROOF Collective has just announced that it has onboarded a new Director of Research in a move that could spell great things for the upcoming Grails: Season II launch.
On Tuesday, a Twitter user who, for anonymity purposes, uses the name NFTStatistics.eth and goes by the handle @punk9059 announced that he had joined Web3 startup PROOF Collective as its Director of Research.
His announcement was seconded by PROOF Collective’s official Twitter account, welcoming the new addition to the PROOF team.
According to @punk9059, he joined the team because he sees it as the best platform to continue working on his research that combines analytics and on-the-ground narratives for NFTs. He is optimistic that bringing that research to PROOF would extend “the work to a wider audience.”
He says that judging from the podcasts of PROOF’s founder Kevin Rose, the latter had a deep respect for NFT artists and a “unique knowledge of the utility NFT space.” He mentioned several people he spoke to who reinforced his belief in the PROOF team, making it easier for him to accept the position of Director of Research.
Role in PROOF Collective
Per @punk9059, his role in PROOF Collective is merely a continuation of what he has been doing—“combining analytics and narrative to make sense of the NFT space,” which until now could be a veiled subject. It appears his new role would involve working closely with PROOF Collective NFT holders aside from continuing to serve the broader NFT community.
PROOF Collective is a private community for NFT collectors. To become part of it, you must pay Ξ 99, or about $157,000 at today’s prices, for a membership pass. Holders of the membership pass were given early minting privileges. It is also the organization behind the highly successful Moonbirds NFT project.
@punk9059 lists several jobs he has done throughout his career that are relevant to his current position at PROOF. These include handling investment research at an investment bank, building a startup from 50 to 20,000 employees, professional photography, and crypto and NFT analysis.
His entry into the PROOF team could be just what the doctor ordered, especially since PROOF has just acquired NFT engineering team Divergence. The acquisition is part of PROOF’s plans to bolster its bid for a new social platform and other NFT-related stuff, including the imminent launch of Grails: Season II.
PROOF Collective’s Grails: Season II
PROOF Collective’s Grails: Season II is the latest iteration of Grails, described as Rose’s secretive NFT project. According to Twitter user Mike Wu, who describes himself as the founder and president of Bandwidth Productions, the Grails project took a backseat when PROOF focused on the Moonbirds and Moonbirds Oddities NFT projects. However, PROOF is ready to let the project take center stage.
The first Grails gave holders the right to mint one NFT from a collection of 20 artists. The catch is the artists remain anonymous until after minting is completed. Grails: Season II works pretty much the same way. However, this time, there are 25 artworks to choose from, from 25 artists who will remain anonymous until the post-mint live reveal event.
The mint is starting in two weeks, and access to it would require a Grails: Season II Mint Pass. The Mint Pass will be airdropped to the wallets of 1,000 PROOF Collective NFT and 176 nested Grail Moonbird holders. The passes are also available on OpenSea and may be purchased before and after the reveal process.
Each of the abovementioned will be eligible for one mint. Artists will also be gifted their genesis mint (25 in total) and one additional mint (25 × 2 = 50). On the other hand, PROOF will mint one of each (25) for its collection and gallery.
The token will be burned if a Mint Pass is not redeemed within the allotted window. That means it cannot be traded or used at a later date.
