Victor Langlois, the 19-year-old artist also known as Fewocious, recently made headlines after setting a new secondary sales record of Ξ 350 for his work, “The Sailor.”
Acclaimed 19-year-old NFT artist Victor Langlois, also known as Fewocious, has added another rung to his ladder of achievements. On Friday, the transgender artist hit a new all-time high secondary sale for his NFT art, The Sailor, after it sold for Ξ 350 or about $595,000 at the time of purchase.
NFT Now, a website that brings NFT enthusiasts their daily dose of freshly minted NFT news, features, and analysis, shared the good news through its official Twitter account.
More Details on Fewocious’ Latest Accomplishment
On August 19, an anonymous buyer who goes by the handle ‘capital6529’ purchased Fewocious’ NFT art, The Sailor, for a whopping Ξ 350, or about $595,000 at the time of the sale. Capital6529 purchased the NFT from its previous owner, ‘2YeahYeah’. 2YeahYeah originally bought the piece for only Ξ 46, or roughly $71,700, early last year.
Those familiar with Fewocious’ style know that his works are typical otherworldly pop surrealist art in vibrant colors. The same is true for The Sailor, a looping animated NFT art depicting a morphed human face down in true Fewocious fashion.
The Sailor has a description that reads, “[I] don’t know what’s ahead, and [I] can’t be certain. [M]oving onward and upward, my friend… at least [I’m] trying.”
Capital6529 took to Twitter to express his sentiment after the sale. He tweeted, “Bringing a @fewocious into the 6529 family has been a very long time in coming.”
Fewocious couldn’t contain his excitement over the sale. He shared a touching message through his Twitter account, saying, “My sophomore [high school] English teacher saw this and messaged me saying she’s gonna add this piece [and] my story to her lesson about resilience to her students.”
Getting to know Fewocious
Victor Langlois, more popularly known as Fewocious, is considered one of the most successful NFT artists. He is a transgender artist who has been making art since he was 13. He first broke through the NFT space in 2020, when he became the youngest Christie’s Auction House artist.
The 19-year-old transgender prodigy has generated over half a billion dollars through his works which are a combination of traditional physical works and NFT art. He makes the most revenue from his NFT art.
In July last year, Fewocious put up a mix of his physical artworks and NFTs at Christie’s Auction House in New York. The collection “Hello, I’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS), And This Is My Life” explored Fewocious’s childhood memories and gender transitions. The work sold for a staggering $2.16 million. Following that, he sold a one-of-one NFT and physical artwork at a Sotheby’s auction for $2.8 million.
Langlois has always been open about his struggles as a transgender person, saying it has always been difficult for him for most of his life. “It’s been hard for me to process, to be honest,” he revealed in a past interview.
Growing up in an abusive household, he was eventually taken to live with his grandparents. Sadly, things were not much different there.
“I thought I would be safe,” Victor explained. “But they were just as mean.”
Now, though, he considers those memories worth celebrating—he brings those memories to life through his works, which help others who may be going or have gone through the same things to understand themselves better.
Last April, Fewocious sold more than $20 million in digital art in just 24 hours. It was the third-largest for Nifty Gateway, an NFT marketplace.
Fewocious attributes his success to his expertise and skill in creating pieces that are not only physically aesthetic but also realistic from a detailed perspective.
