After the successful July 16 launch of the Otherside’s First Trip, a small part of its gameplay, Yuga Labs released a litepaper detailing a much larger storyline.
Finally, the Otherside’s First Trip successfully launched on July 16 after a couple of load tests. After the successful launch, Yuga Labs released a litepaper that explains the larger storyline of the Otherside.
“This document is the litepaper for the world-building Metaverse platform known as Otherside,” Yuga Labs said in the litepaper. “It is designed to communicate and explain principles of the platform, capabilities of its developers, and possibilities for community co-creation.”
According to the litepaper, there will be three phases to the Otherside Metaverse. The First Trip, launched on Saturday, is part of the first phase, known as the Voyager’s Journey, which will have an 11-part storyline.
Otherside’s 11-Part Storyline
Per the litepaper, the Voyager’s Journey will have an 11-part storyline revolving around a mysterious Obelisk that appeared in the Otherside universe. Each fragment of the Obelisk represents different stages of the gameplay. Saturday’s First Trip is the first piece of the Obelisk.
“We are inviting Otherdeed NFT holders along to participate in the Voyager’s Journey, a narrative gameplay experience that will introduce and educate players on the fundamentals of how to participate in Otherside,” the litepaper states. “Each major stage of the Voyager’s Journey is marked on the Obelisk page and will be explained in more detail here.”
“All Voyagers that complete each stage of this experience in accordance with the rules will be eligible to receive additional incentives related to Otherside in the future. The section below will be continually updated with the official rules and stipulations to qualify completion and will be announced prior to the beginning of each Stage of the Voyager’s Journey.”
Phase 1 is a critical stage for Voyagers since this is where they will “develop [their] own experiences on [their] slice of the Otherside, and discover and shape what can be harvested, crafted, traded, bought, and sold.”
According to the litepaper, Voyagers will play a significant role in determining the core capabilities of the platform through “exclusive events, playtesting opportunities, and as co-developers of our Otherside Development Kits (ODKs).”
Over 4,500 Voyagers took part in Saturday’s launch of the First Trip.
“The first stage of the Voyager’s Journey will be a series of tech demos, allowing Voyagers to journey into Otherside and participate in an evolving story,” the litepaper states. “Voyagers will also get several chances with playtest sessions to help our developers push the limits of the platform technology.”
Although the First Trip on Saturday was technically the new Metaverse’s maiden voyage, any user who wishes to complete said stage of the Voyager’s Journey is free to do so. Per the litepaper, a completer will need to participate in or watch one of the upcoming trips to the Metaverse.
Incidentally, Otherdeed NFT holders were among the first to experience the First Trip and the load tests. To those who do not know, Otherdeed NFTs are NFT digital land deeds necessary to claim land on the Otherside Metaverse.
A recent tweet from the Otherside’s official Twitter account states that Otherdeed NFT holders must connect the wallets they used during the tech demo. Such is essential for them to receive the First Trip fragment of the Obelisk, which serves as a visual representation of the updated metadata that proves their participation in the First Trip.
Once again, the Otherside team encourages Voyagers to only check for details on future trips and stages of the Voyager’s Journey on their official Twitter account.
