Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer releases a new feature for its TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch that is a perfect match for NFT enthusiasts.
On Wednesday morning, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer released a new feature for its TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch model. The company’s formal announcement on its Twitter page was a shoutout to the NFT community since the new feature is NFT-centric.
This move is a further testament to the company’s dedication to carving a niche in the Web3 space. In May, TAG Heuer started accepting cryptocurrency payments. Coincidentally, its chief executive purchased a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT around the same time.
New NFT Feature for the Community
Owned by fashion powerhouse Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), TAG Heuer integrates a new feature in some of their smartwatch models, allowing users to display their NFTs. In particular, owners of the Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch can display their favorite NFTs for anyone to see.
The release of the new feature is in collaboration with Ledger, the hardware cryptocurrency wallet company that allows its users to store private keys for cryptocurrencies offline. Owners of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch are the ones who will benefit fully from this new feature. Incidentally, the smartwatches are most compatible with the software crypto wallet Metamask.
TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 NFT Feature
According to the TAG Heuer website, this is a first in its smartwatch technology, allowing users to use their watches “to display [their] highly collectible virtual artworks on [their] wrist with verified proof of ownership.” TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch owners can also transfer their favorite NFTs to their new “Lens watch face” to “enjoy three exclusive high-fidelity layouts with time display.”
As seen in the embedded Twitter video above, the new Lens watch face will show a particular NFT in a hexagonal display with a cloud of particles moving around the image. TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch owners can now update their Lens watch face for free through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Here’s a step-by-step guide for installing the new update:
1. From the TAG Heuer Connected app, select Lens watch face. Click on + to add a new image.
2. Select From NFT wallet.
3. Select the wallet you want to connect to and complete the sign-in process.
4. Go back to your gallery and click on From NFT wallet to display all your NFTs.
5. Select the NFT of your choice, adjust the image and validate.
6. Your NFT will be displayed on your watch with the exclusive animation.
The feature worked like a charm with bluechip NFT collections such as BAYC, CryptoPunks, CloneX, and World of Women (WoW). They also used said NFT collections to develop the idea for the new Lens watch face.
“I have had a deep interest in the NFT space, and this feature fits with TAG Heuer’s tradition of being avant-garde and innovative in technology,” Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer, said in a statement. Incidentally, TAG Heuer was among the first major luxury brands to tinker with smartwatches in 2015.
Fashion Powerhouses and NFTs
Despite the bear market that’s seeing NFT floor prices dropping this week, it’s incredible to see the enthusiasm of many fashion powerhouses in moving ahead with crypto payment offers or NFTs. For instance, French apparel brand Lacoste has announced launching its NFT collection.
Early this year, Gucci, Off White, and Farfetch announced they would start accepting crypto payments. Also, LVMH competitor Kering’s chief client and digital officer Grégory Boutté said at a conference last week that he is looking at turning the conglomerate into a Web3 and NFT space pioneer.
