At the Doodles NFT event during NFT.NYC, the valuable NFT collection, announced its plans for Doodles 2 avatars, fresh funding, plus a new and famous face as its Chief Brand Officer.
Doodles, the popular Ethereum NFT project, dropped a pair of significant announcements during its event at the NFT.NYC 2022 conference on Tuesday. First, it was revealed that musician and producer Pharrell Williams would be joining the project as its Chief Brand Office (CBO).
Next, it was disclosed that through the efforts of venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, it had raised its first round of funding. However, the project did not disclose the funding amount.
Doodles NFT also made another announcement on its official Twitter page. Per the announcement, Doodles 2 avatars will be “coming soon.”
Pharell Williams’ New Role
The 49-year-old “Happy” singer recently journeyed into the NFT space via his own NFT platform, the Gallery of Digital Assets (GODA). The project was intended to be a “trusted and curated source for leading contemporary artists looking to explore digital as a new medium.”
This time, the singer/musician/producer and former “The Voice” coach is taking on a different role as Doodles NFT project’s CBO. Part of his tasks in this new role is helping shape the collection’s approach to music, artwork, consumer products, animation, and events.
“I’m a big fan of the brand,” said Williams in a pre-recorded video message at the event. “We’re going to build from the core community outward and bring Doodles to new heights, new levels.”
Williams will also serve as executive producer of “Doodles Records: Volume 1,” an album with Doodles-inspired music. The album will be released in partnership with Columbia Records. According to a Doodles spokesperson, other “major recording artists” will lend their voices to the album, which will feature artwork from Doodles NFT’s co-founder and artist Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin.
The upcoming Doodles album will only be sold via NFTs, although it will be available to stream through various platforms. A representative from the Doodles NFT team said the Doodles album NFT would be bundled with other yet-to-be-specified NFT collectibles.
Fresh Funding for Doodles NFT
During the same Doodles NFT event at the NFT.NYC 2022, the creators of Doodles announced that Seven Seven Six led a funding round in the project. Seven Seven Six is the venture capital firm of Alexis Ohanian, Reddit’s co-founder. The fresh funding is Doodles’ first capital raise.
A pre-recorded video message shown at the event had Ohanian saying that his firm intends to work with the people behind Doodles to “take all the work they’ve done so far and bring it to another level, scale it even further.” Along with Williams, the venture capital firm’s co-founder, Katelin Holloway, will join Doodles’ board. However, Ohanian did not disclose the amount of the funding.
Latest Doodles NFT Iteration
Launched in October 2021, the Doodles NFT project has grown to become one of the most valuable NFT collections, ranking alongside Bored Ape Yacht Club, CloneX, Azuki, and other bluechip NFTs. Perhaps a turning point in its history is when the project dazzled those who were at the South by Southwest Conference early this year with the engaging potential of NFT art.
After introducing former Billboard president Julian Holguin as its new CEO in May, the Doodles NFT project announced a new NFT collection, Doodles 2, which will cover millions of avatars. It is a far cry from the 10,000 avatars in the original collection and the 5,000 avatars of Space Doodles, its second iteration.
Moreover, Doodles 2 will feature a more comprehensive array of traits to go with wearable items. The team emphasized that the Doodles 2 avatars will not be released on Ethereum, but they did not disclose which blockchain will release the new NFT collection. Here’s a teaser video of the NFT project’s third iteration:
