Hippie nostalgia meshes with the values and ethos of Web3 in this latest super fun and creative NFT project—Dippies.
What do you get when you combine the digital world with the world of hippies? You get Dippies! Dippies are the hippies of this age where the Web 3, Metaverse, and NFT spaces collide.
These modern-day hippies rule the digital world, sharing the same values hippies have stood for over the years but not forgetting to reflect modern sensibilities and the endless possibilities technology provides.
“Our goal when creating the Dippies collection was to commemorate the initial ideas of hippies that we all have while adding a modern flair,” their website said. “We wanted to create characters that oozed originality and funk while inspiring you, the community, to stand up and create a world you believe in.”
The website adds, “Dippies are modern-day adaptations of hippies, with the same values. Ones that are more in touch with society but who are still quietly carving their own path. Rather than refusing to take part in the system, Dippies are building businesses to layer themselves out of the system.”
Getting to Know the Dippies
The NFT collection has 8,888 profile picture (PFP) NFT avatars. Each was generated algorithmically from various traits created by its artist. There are 19 different “base types), the most common of which is the human avatar. Rarer types include Alien, Tree, Zombie, Robot, and Leaf.
The vibrant and colorful art style is reminiscent of the playful aesthetics of Doodles and Cool Cats, two hugely popular NFT collections. So, it is not surprising that Dippies now has a holder base of nearly 6,000 people.
The Brains Behind
Dippies are the brainchild of a two-person founding team. Salman Sharaf, the “Founding Dippie,” is a Web3 enthusiast and content creator with a huge social media following. Just how big? Well, he has 32.7k followers on Instagram and 240k on TikTok. He conceptualized the idea of Dippies to combine his two passions—the Web3 and hippie culture—and to create a PFP avatar that complemented him.
Jonathan Taylor, aka Taylor Might, is the other half of the founding team. This Canada-based illustrator and designer was inspired to take on this project after seeing how NFTs awarded artists creative freedom. It inspired him a lot, prompting him to build the Dippies universe soon thereafter.
Companion Drop
Something that the holders keenly anticipated was the companion drop scheduled for June 7.
In this drop, each holder would be able to claim their very own Van (pictured above). The companion drop is essential since these Van NFTs will be the keys to the Dippieverse.
The Vans offer each holder an opportunity to explore the joys of the Dippieverse ecosystem. Having their own van will also give holders access to “DippieGarage” and “DippieRaces,” soon-to-launch play-to-earn (P2E) games.
There will be 5,000 collectibles in the Dippies Vans series. These will be on the Ethereum blockchain and priced at Ξ 0.08, or about $140.
