SuperPlastic announced on Twitter that its much-awaited collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club is dropping this week. It even teased images of the toy figurines.
Last January, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) announced that it would soon be releasing toys modeled after its famous NFT collection. As per the announcement, BAYC would be teaming up with SuperPlastic—an entertainment, apparel, and designer toy company—to produce the physical products.
However, as much as the project was exciting and hype was created, BAYC and SuperPlastic didn’t provide additional information on the collaboration. They never mentioned a release date or how many BAYC toys will be made available to consumers.
The BAYC and SuperPlastic collaboration, when it was announced last January, was just one in a long line of huge partnerships for the designer toy company. The brand has previously worked with Gucci and Gorillaz, Rico Nasty, J. Balvin, and Steve Aoki. Several other big-time collaborations are in the offing for the company.
About SuperPlastic
SuperPlastic, as mentioned earlier, is a global entertainment brand. They don’t only design toys and apparel, but they also manage celebrities and influencers. Their roster of talents includes several Instagram and TikTok sensations like Dayzee and Staxx, Janky and Guggimon, and Kranky and ShüDog. Due to its growing popularity, it has been referred to as the “next Disney, Marvel, and Supreme combined.”
Since it was officially launched in 2018, SuperPlastic has sold out most of its exclusive character merchandise drops in mere minutes.
Hyping Excitement for the Collaboration
Many fans received news of the collaboration well, and many expressed their excitement through Twitter.
Last month, SuperPlastic made a follow-up announcement through its official website regarding the collaboration, saying that it will be producing BAYC vinyl figurines. The figurines will include multiple colorways and special editions exclusively for the BAYC community.
Drop Date Is Here
The team behind BAYC and SuperPlastic’s collaboration sure knows how to kick the anticipation level of fans several notches higher. Earlier today, the official Twitter account of SuperPlastic teased two vinyl figurines from the BAYC collection with a caption saying, “ape vinyl this week.” BAYC’s official Twitter page simultaneously retweeted it.
That is short of saying that the BAYC vinyl figurines will finally drop anytime soon. Although the images released were dark and devoid of any color, the first figurine puffing on a cigar is definitely a representation of Curtis, BAYC’s mascot. The second ape figurine is likely SuperPlastic’s bored ape, Bored Ape #6894.

The Bored Ape Gazette tried to reach out to SuperPlastic on Twitter to ask whether they would accept $Ape as a payment option for the figurines, but SuperPlastic declined to answer as of yet. We will keep you posted on this information.
Meanwhile, SuperPlastic did say that Bored Ape #6894 will be the “Official ape for the Boredapeyc XSUPERPLASTIC Vinyl figure.”

The flagship bored ape of the vinyl figurine collection is owned by SuperPlastic, having bought the NFT from OpenSea for Ξ 75.8 or about $227,771. It’s a seven-trait black fur ape wearing a Vietnam-era jacket and a seaman’s hat.
What’s Next for BAYC?
While BAYC’s camp is keeping mum about its next moves, there is no doubt this collaboration makes perfect sense for the brand. It has already established itself as one of Metaverse’s leading NFT collections.
With its recent acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from Larva Labs and this collaboration with SuperPlastic, it’s safe to say that the BAYC brand is geared up to expand not only in the Metaverse but beyond.
