Coinbase has announced a dream project—an interactive film series—in collaboration with one of the most popular NFT collections, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and ApeCoin.
Here’s a dream project turning into reality: Coinbase, the digital currency trading platform, is producing a trilogy featuring characters from the popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). Coinbase Entertainment will be at the helm of all three interactive films. The announcement was made through Coinbase’s Twitter account.
In a separate tweet, BAYC said they were “stoked that Coinbase is making a film series featuring the BAYC community.” They also encouraged BAYC NFT holders to submit their apes “for casting.”
It seems BAYC NFT holders can participate in the project by submitting their BAYC NFTs to The Degen Trilogy website. Chosen Bored Apes from the submissions will be featured in the three-part interactive film adventure, also featuring the ApeCoin project.
“At Coinbase, we are dedicated to creating and supporting content projects that speak directly to our community and sustaining the culture of Web3 innovation,” Coinbase Entertainment and culture marketing director William Swann said in a statement.
“As we aim to bring the next billion people into the crypto economy, we firmly believe that this interactive film series will act as a catalyst to serve that mission and help audiences understand the collaborative nature of Web3. We’ve been inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club community, and [we are] excited to invite them to co-create this film with us,” he added.
“Breakthrough Project” for NFTs
In a way, this move is part of Coinbase’s more significant shift in the ecosystem. That’s because the film trilogy collaboration is happening before Coinbase prepares to launch its NFT Market. Many Metaverse enthusiasts assume that this move will shake the landscape, bringing more people into the NFT bandwagon than ever before.
It can be remembered that Coinbase partnered with MasterCard in mid-January in an effort to boost the NFT marketplace. This partnership with one of the biggest financial services corporations in the world would allow users to pay for NFT assets via the Coinbase NFT marketplace with their MasterCard credit and debit cards.
Meanwhile, Yuga Labs CEO Nicole Muniz said this three-part film with Coinbase is a groundbreaking step for NFTs and the entertainment industry. Yuga Labs is the BAYC NFT project’s parent company.
“We’re seeing how NFTs are evolving to be vehicles of access and participation in networks, games, merchandise, and now interactive entertainment,” Muniz explained during the announcement on Monday.
“This is a breakthrough project, and we’re excited to see how this shapes the future of Web3 for all communities,” added the Yuga Labs CEO.
Submitting BAYC Apes
As mentioned earlier, owners of BAYC NFTs can submit their apes through The Degen Trilogy website. A film casting director will review all submissions.
Non-BAYC holders need not worry, though. There will be plenty of chances for non-holders to involve themselves in the project since the microsite will give exclusive updates regarding the films. There will also be new products and features to bolster the experience, including easter eggs, surprises, story drops, and sweepstakes.
