The official release date and gameplay for the much-awaited latest game in the Axie Universe—Axie Infinity: Origin—have just been released, and everyone is excited.
The latest game from Sky Mavis’s Axie Universe—Axie Infinity: Origin—finally has an official release date. A security breach on the Ronin network, the Ethereum-linked sidechain made explicitly for the Axie Infinity NFT game, almost derailed the game’s launch.
Axie Infinity: Origin is the evolution of the highly-popular Axie Infinity game. Nobody can forget how Axie Infinity changed the NFT gaming space with its nonconformist approach. Through this latest iteration, Axie Infinity is solidifying its hold as a leader in testing the capabilities of NFT games.
Ronin Security Breach
Ronin developers said the Ronin Bridge—Sky Mavis’s DeFi network—was hacked on March 23. Still, they only learned of it on Tuesday when a user uncovered issues after trying and failing to withdraw Ξ 5,000 from the network. The attacker used hacked private keys to forge fake withdrawals, draining the Ronin Bridge of Ξ 173,600, or about $566,824,832.
The said security breach is, by far, the biggest and most significant attack on cryptocurrencies in terms of affected monetary value. Nevertheless, such occurrences are not surprising since they are risks associated with using a decentralized financial network.
However, the Axie Infinity Twitter page tweeted the official release announcement on Thursday, along with new gameplay features and mechanics. As per the tweet, Axie Infinity: Origin will be released officially on April 7, 2022, via the Mavis Hub.
Official Axie Infinity: Origin Gameplay Reveal
Axie Infinity: Origin’s official gameplay shows that all players will receive three free started Axies to go with the new game mechanics. It’s good news since players can now test the game out for free and not have to buy Axies from the marketplace. Here’s the gameplay’s official trailer:
As revealed by the gameplay trailer, Axie will execute their attacks as soon as cards are played. In Axie Infinity: Origin, players will take turns using their cards rather than choosing their cards at the start of each round. These changes were made to make the gameplay fast-paced and more engaging.
Moreover, new mechanics will be provided, particularly regarding the retention and acquisition of energy/cards. Such is because players can no longer carry over unused cards across turns. However, in this latest version, players can still use the Axies they acquired from the classic Axie Infinity game.
Also, there will be new cards for the Tail, Back, Mouth, Horn, and Ear, although most will only be upgraded or adjusted from their previous iteration to fit the new game mechanics. An Eye part will also have its own cards this time around.
The new game will feature several quality-of-life improvements, such as faster and more engaging combat, more variations in PvE scenarios, and a revamped PvP system.
According to Sky Mavis, Axie Infinity: Origin’s focus will be on “Play and Earn” instead of the typical “Play to Earn” (P2E) ethos. What will this mean for players? Players will still earn. However, in this iteration, gameplay and player enjoyment are prioritized over any monetary value that players can derive from the game.
