The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team is collaborating with FTX to launch a unique series of NFTs to engage with fans in an innovative way.
On Thursday, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team announced partnering with FTX to launch an array of NFT collectibles. Both FTX and Mercedes-AMG Petronas forged a long-term partnership in September 2021. To those who don’t know, FTX is one of the most innovative crypto exchanges in the world at this moment.
What’s Included in the Collectibles?
The team and FTX will collaborate with some of the world’s leading artists in creating limited edition free-to-claim “ticket stubs.” These are artistic interpretations of a Mercedes-AMG Petronas race ticket and other unique and rare NFTs released throughout the year.
One thousand of these limited edition NFT ticket stubs will be launched at five races during the 2022 season, with the Miami Grand Prix as a starting point. The NFTs will be minted on Solana and released through the FTX NFTs marketplace.
According to Mercedes-AMG Petronas’ press release, other races will have about 2,500 NFT ticket stub collectibles. Each stub will feature a unique design, and FTX is looking for ways to add latent utility to the NFTs to make them more beneficial to holders.
For the Miami Grand Prix, FTX and Mercedes-AMG Petronas have collaborated with noted artist Mad Dog Jones, who commissioned ten limited edition NFT artworks. These pieces will be auctioned off.
The team hopes the NFT ticket stub drops will pave the way for fans to build and trade their own NFT collection over the season, thereby engaging with other fans and building a new community of collectors and traders with a shared passion for racing and digital art.
Two special NFTs will feature F1 drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton’s 2022 Miami cars. During the Miami Grand Prix, both drivers will run rear wing endplates featuring Mad Dog’s artwork. What’s more, the rear wings, which are fresh off the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 in Miami, will be auctioned along with their corresponding Mad Dog NFT.
Auction Launch Date
The auction for the Mad Dog Jones NFT collection and the 1,000 limited edition NFT ticket stubs starts on Friday, May 6, at 10 AM and will run through the following Friday, May 13. The auction will be on the FTX US NFT Marketplace.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Ignite, which is the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team and Mission44’s joint charitable initiative. The charity’s mission is to support greater diversity and inclusion within motorsport.
Since four races have already set off the 2022 F1 season, the team will also release limited edition NFT ticket stubs for season-opening races in Italy, Bahrain, Australia, and Saudi Arabia during the Miami Grand Prix. Fans who register during the Miami Grand Prix will receive randomly allocated NFT ticket stubs.
“Finding new and innovative ways to engage with our global fanbase is a key priority for the team,” said Richard Sanders, Commercial Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. He also said they were “thrilled to launch our 2022 collection of NFTs created by some of the world’s most talented artists, starting with Mad Dog Jones,” noting that the collectibles are a great way for fans to be closer to the team.
